Gastein Thermal Water A special treasure from the depths of the Hohe Tauern.

Many thousands of years – this is how long the journey of Gastein thermal water takes until it finally bubbles up to the surface from the depths of the mountains. Our thermal water is world famous. Knowledge rooted in ancient tradition is combined with the very latest medical research.

The secret of the hot springs

Five million liters: This is how much valuable thermal water emerges from 16 different springs at the foot of the Graukogel in Bad Gastein every single day. Its secret? A natural spring temperature of 45.8 °C combined with the noble gas radon. The healing mixture of natural warmth, weak radioactivity and the elevation of Gastein has extraordinary effects.

How Gastein thermal water is born

Since the last Ice Age, huge quantities of rain- and meltwater have seeped into the ground. This water is heated up deep inside the earth, then rises back to the surface. In the process, the water dissolves trace elements in the rock. Decay of radium salts produces the noble gas radon, the natural pain reliever that is contained in our thermal water.

How thermal water works

Alleviating pain, reducing inflammation, stimulating cell repair, activating the body's self-healing powers, strengthening the immune system: the Gastein thermal water is an absolute allrounder. In the Alpentherme Gastein Health Center, it is used as a natural therapeutic in the form of various thermal baths and hydrotherapies. In the process, the radon enters the body through the skin and respiratory passages, where it then unfolds its healing effects. After three hours, it has been broken down completely. The minimal radiation exposure during radon therapy has nothing but positive health benefits.

Thermal water is particular effective in treating the following conditions:

  • Inflammatory and degenerative joint complaints
  • Ankylosing spondylitis
  • Wear and tear affecting the spine and joints
  • Disk problems
  • Muscular and soft-tissue pain disorders
  • Consequences of sporting and traumatic injury
  • Osteoporosis-related complaints
  • Susceptibility to infection
  • Respiratory problems
  • Skin problems (psoriasis, neurodermatitis…)
  • General regeneration and strengthening of the immune system

The positive effects of Gastein thermal water have been the subject of numerous academic studies and been scientifically proven. The quality of our water is tested and analyzed regularly by the Gastein Research Institute and Salzburg AG. Analysis of the thermal water
