Thermal Water
The Gastein thermal water – our chief means of treatment – flows from 16 springs at the base of Mt. Graukogel. Bad Hofgastein draws its thermal water – 1 million litres per day – from the Elisabeth Spring. It is slightly mineralised and is naturally enriched with radon, which stimulates your body’s immune system, plus the water’s natural warmth enhances blood circulation.
Scientific Analysis of Gastein's Thermal water Done by the Institute for Physiology and Balneology at Innsbruck University
Curative Water Analysis
Source temperature: 46.8° C
Flow Rate: 2475 m3/24 hrs
Radon Content: 40 nCi/litre
Chemical Analysis
1 kg spring water contains:
Nitrite could not be detected. Organic material is present in only very small quantities.
The Gastein thermal springs doubly meet the standard set by the Austrian Heilvorkommen- und Kurortegesetz (“Curative Resource and Health Resort Law?), so that their waters can be approved as Heilwasser (“curative water?).
The springs’ temperature, as well as the temperature of the water used at the spa, is always higher – much higher – than the required minimum temperature of 20°C. And regarding its concentration of special substances, the Elisabeth Spring’s water has a radon-222 concentration of 40.00 nCi/l – clearly exceeding the minimum of 10 nCi/l required for bathing cures.
